Carlos Frederico Coelho, BRICS Policy Center at PUC-Rio researcher, gave an interview to O Globo newspaper.

Carlos Frederico, a professor at IRI/PUC-Rio and a researcher at the BRICS Policy Center/PUC-Rio, gave an interview to O Globo newspaper about the U.S. tariff surcharge and its significant impact on the Brazilian agribusiness sector.

According to the professor, because this is a highly politically targeted sector—and the surcharges themselves are politically motivated—it is a difficult situation to rationalize. Moreover, he explains that, in the short term, there will be negative effects on high-demand products such as coffee. However, these items tend to find new markets more easily. The greatest challenge falls on lower value-added products, such as açaí, which have fewer commercial alternatives.
