The BRICS Policy Center (PUC-Rio) invites you to the seminar “Geopolitics of Critical Minerals in Latin America: Challenges for a Just and Sustainable Energy Transition,” which will take place on December 2, 2025, at the BPC headquarters.

The event will discuss how the growing demand for lithium, cobalt, nickel, and rare earths has reshaped production chains and power relations within the context of the energy transition. Latin America, home to significant reserves of these minerals, faces challenges related to value addition, sovereignty over its production chains, and local socio-environmental impacts—issues that are also central to Brazil.
