BRICS Policy Center Participated as Co-Organizer of the International Symposium “Ascending BRICS” at the University of Brasília

On May 29 and 30, BPC Director Marta Fernández and BPC researcher Ana Saggioro Garcia took part in the International Symposium “Rising BRICS,” which brought together representatives from the Federal Government, academics, civil society organizations, and international delegates to discuss the main challenges facing the BRICS in the current geopolitical landscape, with a focus on democracy, sustainable development, and social justice.

Led by the Progressive International, in partnership with the BRICS Policy Center, the University of Brasília, Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, iBRICS+, INESC, REBRIP, Plataforma Cipó, the Global Fund for a New Economy, and the Brazilian Basic Income Network, the symposium aimed to provide direct contributions to Brazil’s presidency of BRICS through broad social participation.

During the event, Ana Saggioro Garcia moderated the session “The BRICS Climate Leadership Agenda,” which focused on discussing innovative financial mechanisms for the ecological transition, just transition policies, and social protection frameworks.

On May 30, the participating organizations presented a document with recommendations to BRICS Vice-Sherpa, Minister Paula Barboza, during a Plenary Session of the Foreign Relations and Defense Committee.
