BRICS in Focus: PUC-Rio Extension Course Explores Brazil’s Role in a Changing Global Scenario

BRICS has been consolidating itself as one of the main political forces in the international system. From an economic alliance, the group has evolved into a political platform for dialogue and global governance, with a focus on multipolarity and sustainable development. In 2025, with the Brazilian Presidency of the BRICS Summit, Brazil will play an even more prominent role in articulations with its members and in multilateral forums such as the G20 and COP-30.

In this context, CCEC/PUC-Rio is offering the extension course “Understanding the BRICS in a Changing Global Scenario”, which will take place from June 30 to July 4, 2025 in an online format, with classes taught by Marta Fernández (director) and Maria Elena Rodriguez (deputy director) of the BRICS Policy Center.

Divided into five modules, the course offers a critical and accessible view of:

– The role of BRICS in the global economy and international politics

– Digital governance and the changing world order

– Finance, infrastructure and the energy transition

– Brazil’s role in the BRICS

With an interdisciplinary approach, the course prepares participants to analyze and actively engage in debates on BRICS and South-South cooperation.
