- Emphasizing the need for a more balanced international system;
- Opposing Western dominance and criticizing economic sanctions;
- Strengthening cooperation between countries of the global South;
- Strengthening regional and global security;
- Implementing the “partner country” modality to attract new developing nations;

15th BRICS Summit
Topics and priorities
The theme of the 15th BRICS Summit, held in Johannesburg, South Africa, was: “Partnership for mutually accelerated growth, sustainable development and inclusive multilateralism”.
The priority areas proposed by South Africa were as follows:
- Addition of new members to the grouping, materialized by the invitations made to Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Iran.
- Fighting hunger, poverty and defending sustainable development
- Advocacy for reform of the UN and its Security Council, to make it more democratic and inclusive
- Making multilateral trade bodies fairer
- Defending mutual, multilateral growth guided by the principles of sustainable development

The theme of the 13th BRICS Summit, which took place online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was “Intra-BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation and Consensus”.
The priority areas for cooperation proposed by India were the following:
- Fighting global inequality in access to vaccination
- Greater cooperation between BRICS countries on health issues
- More transparency in economic and transparent multilateralism
- Control and need to guarantee non-proliferation of weapons
- The need to fight for peace and combat terrorism, highlighting concern about ongoing conflicts around the globe
- Strengthening agricultural cooperation within the BRICS
- Recognition of the importance of technological cooperation within BRICS

12th BRICS Summit
Topics and priorities
The theme of the 12th BRICS Summit, which took place online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was “BRICS Partnership for Global Stability, Shared Security and Innovative Growth”.
The priority areas of cooperation proposed by Russia were the following:
- Continued search for peace and reaffirmation of the importance of international law
- Pursuit of sustainable development and a shared future motivated by cooperation
- In the spirit of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, a desire for multipolarity, inclusion, sovereign equality of states and non-intervention
- Reaffirmation of the ambition to reshape the UN Security Council and the WTO to make them more effective and representative
- Recognition of the need for comprehensive immunization and the fight against COVID-19
- The need for rapid negotiation between the sides involved in the conflict between Israel and Palestine

The priority areas for cooperation proposed by Brazil were as follows:
- Commitment to the carbon emission reduction targets signed in the Paris Agreement
- The need to reform various international organizations, such as the IMF, WTO and United Nations
- The search for common development based on fair competition and open markets
- Commitment to the 2030 Agenda and the principles of sustainable development
- Fighting corruption in the public sector

10th BRICS Summit
Themes and Priorities
The 10th BRICS Summit was held under the theme “The BRICS in Africa: Collaboration for Inclusive Growth and Shared Prosperity in the 4th Industrial Revolution.”
The priority areas for cooperation of BRICS proposed by South Africa were as follows:
- Establishment of a Working Group on Peacekeeping;
- Establishment of a Vaccine Research Center for Collaboration with BRICS vaccine innovation and development partners – the goal is to be a physical research center focused on vaccine research and development and innovation;
- Establishment of a BRICS Gender and Women Forum – designed as a dedicated path for gender and women’s issues, given the economic benefits derived from the socio-economic empowerment of women, particularly in developing countries;
- Leveraging the BRICS Economic Partnership Strategy with the Perspective of Inclusive Growth and the Advancement of the 4th Industrial Revolution – it is intended to foster discussions to address the opportunities offered by the Fourth Industrial Revolution as a means of overcoming developmental phases and bridging the gap digital; and
- Establishment of a BRICS tourism cooperation trail

The priority areas for cooperation of BRICS proposed by the Russian Federation´s Presidency in BRICS were:

- Advancing Russia’s national security interests and BRICS’ common security interests, strengthening international security;
