
Vanessa Faria
Since March 2023, Ambassador Vanessa Dolce de Faria has served as High Representative for Gender Issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her role has the unprecedented character of seeking to support the mainstreaming of gender in the various areas of foreign policy and has allowed her to maintain contact with civil society, social movements and various government bodies. A career diplomat with a law degree from USP, she joined the Rio Branco Institute 26 years ago. She worked in the economic department with intellectual property negotiations (2001-2004) and was head of Itamaraty’s Southern Africa and Lusophone Division (2016-2019). She was chief of staff of the Executive Secretariat of the Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management (2004-2005) and of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (2013-2015), as well as special advisor to the President of the Republic (2015-2016). She served in the Brazilian embassies in Argentina (2006-2009) and Paraguay (2009-2012) and was deputy consul general in Barcelona (2019-2023). She is the author of the book “Política externa e participação social: trajetória e perspectivas” (Foreign policy and social participation: trajectory and perspectives) and several articles, including analyses of gender and diplomacy.
