Professor Ana Garcia’s new article in the journal The Extractive Industries and Society

Professor Ana Garcia, director of the BRICS Policy Center, together with Karina Yoshie Martins Kato (UFRRJ), published the article ‘”Valeu a pena?” An assessment of Vale’s operations in Mozambique through the prism of the International Articulation of those Affected by Vale’. The article presents an analysis of 20 years of Vale mining company’s operations in Mozambique through the perspective of the international articulation of those affected by Vale.

In the article, the authors argue that the international articulation of those affected by Vale’s mining activities is an unprecedented initiative of articulation between civil society organizations, researchers and social movements to monitor and confront a company from the Global South. The article shows that, over the course of a decade, organizations within this international articulation have been able to converge around common interests and objectives, and confront Vale’s actions in different contexts and territories.

The article is available in the journal The Extractive Industries and Society.
