8th Edition of Café com BRICS: “Brazil Leading the International Agenda: From the BRICS Summit to COP30”

On April 24, 2025, the Socio-Environmental Platform of the BRICS Policy Center held another edition of Café com BRICS, under the theme “Brazil Leading the International Agenda: From the BRICS Summit to COP30.” The event featured Gustavo Westmann, Head of the Special Advisory for International Affairs at the Secretariat-General of the Presidency of the Republic. Gustavo Westmann, who has been closely following major international events hosted by Brazil in recent years, provided an overview of the processes developed by the country within these forums — from the Amazon Dialogues and the G20 to Brazil’s current presidencies of the BRICS and COP30 under the UNFCCC. He emphasized the underlying thread characterizing Brazil’s leadership in these initiatives: the integration of social participation into foreign policy and the defense of multilateralism.

The debate, open to audience interaction, addressed a range of topics, including climate finance (from BRICS to COP30), the reform of the international financial architecture and the facilitation of trade among BRICS members, information sharing and combating disinformation, as well as the role of non-state engagement and participation both within BRICS and in the COP30 processes.
