Short Bio:

Payal Banerjee is Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Smith College, Massachusetts, United States. Banerjee conducts research on global political economy, migration and development. His publications in Critical Sociology, Race, Gender, and Class, IFJP, Irish Journal of Anthropology, Women’s Studies Quarterly and other edited volumes focused on the Indian workers in the IT field in the United States, skilled migration and visa policies work. Banerjee ‘s research on Chinese minorities in India and Sino-Indian relations was published in Lishi Yanjiu Huaren Huaqiao (Overseas Chinese History Studies, in Mandarin), Security and Peace, and China Report. His recent work focuses on the political economy of sustainable development in India, having appeared as an Occasional Paper of the United Nations Institute for Research on Social Development. Payal Banerjee was Professor of the Graduate Program in International Affairs (GPIA), The New School, New York University and Sikkim, Gangtok, India. It was also a visiting professor at FLAME, Pune, India. Apart from teaching general classes of sociology, Banerjee also offers courses on global political economy, gender, migration, theory, research methods, on India and China.
