The data relating to the investments of Chinese Companies in the Pan – Amazon region were obtained through research in primary and secondary sources that include: websites of the governments, websites of the Companies involved, national and foreign newspapers and a variety of databases of different institutions. We adopted the limits of PanAmazon region stablished by Rede Amazônica de Informação Socioambiental Georreferenciada (RAISG). Until now, only executed or under execution investments made by Chinese Companies in the Pan–Amazon region were considered. Announced or foreseen investments were not included. The amount of each investment is shown in millions of dollars (US$M) referred to the value on the transaction date.

Trade

The data of imports and exports from South American countries to China and to the world were obtained from the World Bank - WITS database, divided by stages of processing. The values are available in millions of dollars as reported by the countries in the period.

Chinese Investment

Because it uses data from different databases, the China Panel will only show graphical views when there is Chinese trade and investment data in the same year. In general, the view of trade data can be gapped up to two years, while investment data will be updated in a shorter period of up to one year.

Chinese Investment

The data referring to Chinese Investments in the South American countries correspond to the investment flow from China to the analyzed country (and not its stock), displayed in millions of dollars at current prices and divided by sectors. China-country investments were extracted from the AEI China Global Investment Tracker database. In turn, Chinese investment is analyzed in perspective with the flow of investments from the rest of the world to South American countries. Investment data in the world-country relationship is displayed in its entirety, per year, and reflects values extracted from the World Bank's database.
