{"id":4802,"date":"2016-09-30T15:24:49","date_gmt":"2016-09-30T18:24:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/devbrq.fazti.com.br\/?p=4802"},"modified":"2018-04-11T15:26:57","modified_gmt":"2018-04-11T18:26:57","slug":"meet-our-new-volunteer-interns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bricspolicycenter.org\/en\/meet-our-new-volunteer-interns\/","title":{"rendered":"MEET OUR NEW VOLUNTEER INTERNS"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><\/h5>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<p>In the second semester of 2016, arrived to the<strong>\u00a0BRICS Policy Center<\/strong>\u00a0the new exchange students that will make up the squad of\u00a0<strong>Volunteer Interns<\/strong>.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bricspolicycenter.org\/homolog\/sobre_equipe_academica\/details\/308\" target=\"_self\">Anders Jensen<\/a>,\u00a0Frederik Skaaning,Samantha Mesquita\u00a0and\u00a0Maria Nagawa<\/strong>\u00a0will work in research in the area of International Cooperation for Development.\u00a0<strong>Francesco Petrone\u00a0and\u00a0Tara MacKinnon<\/strong>, meanwhile, will work with the\u00a0<strong>Socioenvironmental Platform<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anders Jensen<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Frederik Skaaning<\/strong>, Danish, are doing Masters in\u00a0<strong>Development and International Relations<\/strong>, which approaches International Relations in the economic, political and sociological aspects, at\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.en.aau.dk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aalborg University<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<strong>The research of Jensen converges with that of the BPC<\/strong>\u00a0in the sense that he is interested in knowing how the BRICS can move forward against the interests of the US in the World Bank, and also, how the US and China are able to influence and protect their interests in Venezuela and Latin America.\u00a0<strong>Skaaning, for his part, seeks to investigate the IBSA block<\/strong>, which maintains a forum of negotiations about political, economic and social aspects in the context of South-South cooperation, which also links to the research of the BPC. At the end of his period at BPC, Anders will publish a a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bricspolicycenter.org\/homolog\/publicacoes\/index\/2?tipo=BRICS%20Monitor\" target=\"_self\">Monitor<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0about the New Development Bank. Frederik will produce a comparative\u00a0<strong>Fact Sheet<\/strong>\u00a0about China-CECAC and FOCAC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Samantha Mesquita<\/strong>, also doing a Masters in<strong>\u00a0Development and International Relations at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.en.aau.dk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aalborg University<\/a><\/strong>, will research how the BRICS can \u201cwork as a bridge\u201d in order that the framework of\u00a0<strong>International Fiscal Cooperation<\/strong>\u00a0becomes more democratic and representative, with Brazil at the front of the defence of less developed countries, since the question has been\u00a0<strong>historically dominated by the OECD and the countries of the global North.\u00a0<\/strong>The result of her research will be a possible\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bricspolicycenter.org\/homolog\/publicacoes\/index\/13?tipo=Fact%20Sheets\" target=\"_self\">Fact Sheet<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0on the subject.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maria Nagawa<\/strong>, from Uganda, is doing a\u00a0<strong>Masters in International Political Economy<\/strong>\u00a0and comes to the BPC in order to\u00a0<strong>analyse the commercial relations between the BRICS and the East African Community<\/strong>, since, according to her, such relations are an important part of any type of cooperation. The idea of the research is to guarantee that there are no other opportunities for cooperation that are not yet being explored by the bloc. She argues that, as the dynamism generated by the free movement of capital, people and goods is essential for development, such an arrangement should be set up between the countries of the global south, to alter the current North-South relationship. Maria wants to do a doctorate in<strong>\u00a0IRI\/PUC-Rio<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>possibly to publish a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bricspolicycenter.org\/homolog\/publicacoes\/index\/1?tipo=Policy%20Brief\" target=\"_self\">Policy Brief<\/a>\u00a0with the BPC during her time in Rio.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Francesco Petrone<\/strong>, Italian, has a\u00a0<strong>Masters in Political Science from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ub.edu\/web\/ub\/en\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Barcelona<\/a>\u00a0and has a PhD by the same university<\/strong>. His interest in the Center came from research about the BRICS and how new powers challenge the current global decisions. During his period in the BPC, Francesco will focus on the influence of the BRICS countries in climate change and the COP21 decisions. Petrone is part of the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bricspolicycenter.org\/homolog\/projetos\/Index\/17\" target=\"_self\">Socioenvironmental Platform<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and will publish a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bricspolicycenter.org\/homolog\/publicacoes\/index\/1?tipo=Policy%20Brief\" target=\"_self\">Policy Brief<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0about Global Governance and climate change.<\/p>\n<p>Finally,\u00a0<strong>Tara MacKinnon<\/strong>, of the USA, is doing a\u00a0<strong>Masters in International Relations at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.syr.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Syracuse University<\/a><\/strong>, New York, with an\u00a0<strong>emphasis on Development and Latin America<\/strong>. She is doing research on\u00a0<strong>South-South cooperation and relations\u00a0<\/strong>between China and certain African countries, focusing on the\u00a0<strong>Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC)<\/strong>\u00a0and on the\u00a0<strong>Macau Forum<\/strong>. MacKinnon is part of the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bricspolicycenter.org\/homolog\/projetos\/Index\/17\" target=\"_self\">Socioenvironmental Platform<\/a><\/strong>, helping in the research about the New Development Bank of the BRICS.
