The\u00a0Global South Unit for Mediation (GSUM)<\/strong>\u00a0has the pleasure to announce that the call for applications for the\u00a0GSUM Winter School 2016<\/strong>\u00a0is now open.<\/p>\n

The GSUM Winter School is a two-week intensive academic and training program on international mediation in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The GSUM Winter School is open to a maximum of 24 students per week who want to have a substantial learning and training experience in the theory and practice of international mediation, with a particular focus on issues, questions and experiences concerning the Global South.<\/p>\n

In this year\u2019s edition, the GSUM Winter School will deal specifically with mediation and peace building processes, with a strong regional focus on Latin America. During the Winter School, we will devote special attention to questions related to human rights and disarmament and their importance for ongoing peace processes in Latin America.<\/p>\n

Target Public<\/strong><\/em>
\nPostgraduate students and\/or professionals (scholars, civil society\u2019s representatives, diplomats, NGO staffers, government officials, lawyers, and international organizations’ employees, among others) interested in international mediation, with a particular focus on experiences related to the Global South. In exceptional cases, undergraduate students with outstanding academic performance, and who intend to pursue a postgraduate degree in international mediation or related areas, might be accepted.<\/p>\n

Duration and Dates<\/strong><\/em>
\nThe GSUM Winter School will have the duration of two weeks, taking place between 11th and 22nd of July, 2016.
\nThe two weeks are independent, but interrelated. Hence, students may choose to apply:
\nI.Only to the first week (July 11th to 15th);
\nII.Only to the second week (July 18th to 22nd); or
\nIII.To both weeks<\/p>\n

The deadline for applications is May 15th, 2016.<\/strong><\/p>\n
