On March 9, 2026, the BRICS Policy Center\/PUC-Rio welcomed Dr. Jojo Nem Singh, Principal Research Fellow at the University of Sussex, in the United Kingdom. In the occasion, the researcher presented the main outcomes of his research project “Green Industrial Policy in the Age of Rare Metals,” funded by the European Commission, which examines the role of critical minerals and green industrial policies within the context of the global energy transition.<\/p>\n
The meeting took place in a hybrid format. In addition to Marta Fern\u00e1ndez, Director of BPC\/PUC-Rio, Maria Elena Rodr\u00edguez, Deputy Director of the BPC\/PUC-Rio; Pablo Iba\u00f1ez, professor at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro; Maria Beatriz Peixoto Mello, research assistent at the Socioenvironmental Platform; and Diana Ferreira, research assistent at GSUM, attended in person. Virtually, Joanna Morley and Ji Yingfeng, research fellows from the project, also attended.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, Dr. Jojo presented the objectives and the preliminary results of the project, highlighting China\u2019s role and the geopolitical implications of the energy transition. Other works related to the initiative were presented, as well as the Policy Lab of the project, “Critical Raw Materials”, aiming to reshape mining governance amidst rapidly transforming supply chains.
