Public Statement | BRICS Policy Center (PUC-Rio)<\/p>\n

The BRICS Center for Studies and Research \u2013 BRICS Policy Center (PUC-Rio) expresses its deep concern regarding the attacks carried out by the United States against Venezuela in the early hours of today.<\/p>\n

Military interventions by the United States in Latin America have been historically recurrent and have resulted in serious violations of human rights, democracy, and the sovereignty of countries in the region. We reaffirm our commitment to respect for international law, multilateral norms, and the principles of sovereignty, non-intervention, and the protection of human rights.<\/p>\n

We express particular concern for the Venezuelan civilian population and call for the immediate protection of women, children, and young people, as well as for the preservation of life and of dignified living conditions.<\/p>\n

These attacks take place within a broader context of the weakening of multilateralism by the United States government, marked by unilateral actions, withdrawal from spaces of international cooperation, and hostility toward multilateral forums. It should be recalled that the United States did not participate in COP 30, held in Brazil, nor in the G20 meeting in South Africa, and has also issued hostile statements toward the BRICS. In addition, policies that undermine human rights\u2014particularly those affecting migrant populations, with racial and gender dimensions\u2014have been observed. The military actions also reveal economic motivations, as they seek to undermine state control over one of the largest oil reserves in the world, located in Venezuela.<\/p>\n

We reiterate our strong condemnation of these attacks and reaffirm our commitment to the defense of sovereignty, peace, and human rights in Latin America.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
