On June 18, the seminar \u201cRight to the City on the Global Stage: How do major international events and summits transform Rio de Janeiro?\u201d was held at the BRICS Policy Center, as an extension activity of the course \u201cEthics and Practice of Research and Extension\u201d at the Institute of International Relations at PUC-Rio. The course is taught by Professor S\u00e9rgio Veloso, who also coordinates the BRICS Urbe research project at the BRICS Policy Center. On the occasion, Professor S\u00e9rgio mediated the panel.<\/p>\n
During the seminar, speakers Sandra Maria Teixeira (Vila Aut\u00f3dromo\/Museu das Remo\u00e7\u00f5es), Camila Moradia (MEAA), Cunca Bocayuva (NEPP-DH\/UFRJ) and Thain\u00e3 Medeiros (Instituto Papo Reto) discussed the impacts of major events in the city of Rio de Janeiro, with emphasis on the evictions in the Vila Aut\u00f3dromo community, the PAC and Telef\u00e9rico works in Complexo do Alem\u00e3o, and the dynamics and struggles that have emerged from these processes. The role of NGOs, such as the Papo Reto Institute, in these issues was also discussed.<\/p>\n
