A researcher at the BRICS Policy Center tries to point out some of the challenges in this endeavor in an article published in Estad\u00e3o. The opinion piece is part of the dossier “Hunger on Brazil’s national and international agenda”, launched last month by the BPC, and analyzes the problem that is one of the G20’s main agendas this year. Under Brazil’s presidency, the forum announced the “Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty”.<\/p>\n

According to Siqueira, even before the Covid-19 pandemic, it was clear that efforts to combat hunger were insufficient. Since 2015, the UN had identified an alarming increase in food insecurity around the world. After the pandemic, the trend continued to be a slowdown in hunger reduction, with more countries facing higher food prices than in the pre-Covid-19 period.<\/p>\n

The researcher also warned in the article that the Alliance will not be a fund, nor will it manage one, but should bring donors and interested countries together through a “Policy Basket” and other tools. The expectation is that Brazil will be a leader in guaranteeing basic rights and strengthening social participation.<\/p>\n
