The focus is on the new world economy in the face of the rise of the BRICS and the possibility of more symmetrical international relations.<br \/>\nAmong these activities, on September 10, from 8am to 11:30am, in partnership with the Department of Social Sciences of the Federal University of Amazonas (DCIS-UFAM), the 1st BRICS Amazon Seminar: Brazil, China and South Africa in Comparative Perspective will be held in the Rio Solim\u00f5es Auditorium &#8211; IFCHS\/UFAM.<br \/>\nThe aim of the event is to discuss the relationship between the BRICS countries in terms of economic, social and environmental development. To this end, a set of empirical studies on the economic models of these countries will be presented, with a focus on Free Trade Zones, pointing out the impact that the Chinese economy is having on the direction of the so-called \u201cGlobal South\u201d.<br \/>\nThe event&#8217;s opening panel will be made up of the Rector of UFAM, Professor Ira\u00edldes Caldas Torres (Director of the Institute of Philosophy, Humanities and Social Sciences &#8211; IFCHS &#8211; UFAM), Professor Davyd Spencer (Head of DCIS &#8211; UFAM) and Mr. Arthur Lisboa (Superintendent of the Manaus Free Trade Zone &#8211; SUFRAMA).<\/p>\n<p>The panel will include Ana Saggioro Garcia (UFRRJ\/BPC), Maria Elena Rodriguez (PUC-Rio), Lisa Thompson (University of the Western Cape), Cleiton Maciel Brito (UFAM\/LEAF) and Marcelo Ser\u00e1fico (UFAM).
