The\u00a0event\u00a0brought\u00a0together\u00a0experts\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0five\u00a0BRICS\u00a0countries\u00a0for\u00a0an\u00a0important\u00a0debate\u00a0about\u00a0the\u00a0real\u00a0ambition\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0commitments\u00a0and\u00a0policies\u00a0adopted\u00a0by\u00a0these\u00a0nations\u00a0to\u00a0combat\u00a0climate\u00a0change\u00a0in\u00a0light\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0Paris\u00a0Agreement.\u00a0David\u00a0Tsai,\u00a0coordinator\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0Observat\u00f3rio do Clima’s\u00a0Greenhouse\u00a0Gas\u00a0Emissions\u00a0Estimation\u00a0System\u00a0(SEEG, in portuguese),\u00a0talked about\u00a0Brazil’s climate ambition. To comment on\u00a0South\u00a0Africa’s climate ambition,\u00a0we brought Sibulele\u00a0Poswayo,\u00a0Chair\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0BRICS\u00a0Civil\u00a0Forum\u00a0Working\u00a0Group\u00a0on\u00a0Gender\u00a0Equality.\u00a0Angelina\u00a0Davydova,\u00a0environmental\u00a0journalist,\u00a0observer\u00a0at\u00a0UNFCCC\u00a0climate\u00a0conferences,\u00a0and\u00a0expert\u00a0on\u00a0international\u00a0climate\u00a0policy, talked about Russia’s\u00a0climate\u00a0policy.\u00a0Tian\u00a0Yan\u00a0Baxter, consultant on agriculture and environment for the\u00a0Global\u00a0Environmental\u00a0Institute\u00a0(GEI),\u00a0commented on China’s position on the\u00a0issue.\u00a0And\u00a0India’s climate ambition was discussed by Soumya Dutta, executive member of Friends of the Earth India and trustee of\u00a0Movement for Advancing Understanding of Sustainability And Mutuality (MAUSAM<\/span>)<\/span>, and Aditi Kapoor, co-founder and director of Alternative Futures.<\/p>\n

Beatriz Mattos,\u00a0professor of International Relations at Universidade Veiga de Almeida (UVA) and co-coordinator of the Socio-Environmental Platform,\u00a0was also part of the roundtable to present the main findings\u00a0of the executive summary “BRICS countries’ climate ambition, of which she is a co-author.\u00a0T<\/span>he study was published earlier this year and you can download it for free right on this website.

The event was opened by Ana Garcia, director of BPC, Maureen Santos, co-coordinator of the Socio-Environmental Platform, and C\u00edntya Feitosa, international relations advisor at iCS.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0The virtual round table was moderated by Fabrina Furtado, professor at CPDA\/UFRRJ.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
