{"id":11878,"date":"2020-01-09T15:13:25","date_gmt":"2020-01-09T18:13:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bricspolicycenter.org\/experts-discuss-the-role-of-social-media-in-brazilian-and-mexican-democracies\/"},"modified":"2020-04-08T15:16:39","modified_gmt":"2020-04-08T18:16:39","slug":"experts-discuss-the-role-of-social-media-in-brazilian-and-mexican-democracies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bricspolicycenter.org\/en\/experts-discuss-the-role-of-social-media-in-brazilian-and-mexican-democracies\/","title":{"rendered":"Experts discuss the role of social media in Brazilian and Mexican democracies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the 2nd of December, the BRICS Policy Center organised the lecture <strong>\u201cMedia and Democracy in Brazil and Mexico: from television to digital media\u201d<\/strong>, with the aim of debating, comparatively, how the political and democratic processes of Brasil and Mexico are affected by the growing influence of social media- primarily in the last electoral processes of each respective country.<\/p>\n<p>During the event the experts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ituassu.com.br\/\">Arthur Ituassu<\/a>, Professor of Political Communication at PUC Rio and Coordinator of Group Research in Communication, Internet and Politics (COMP), and Carlos Mu\u00f1iz, Professor at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uanl.mx\/\">The Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Nuevo Le\u00f3n<\/a> and Coordinator of the Political Communication Laboratory (LACOP) were both present. Professor Mu\u00f1iz was also present for one month as a visiting professor in the Masters Program of Communication at PUC RIO, with the support of CAPES.<\/p>\n<p>In his presentation, Mu\u00f1iz discussed an empirical analysis of Mexico&#8217;s situation, specifically looking at the communication strategy of L\u00f3pez Obrador in his speeches as President of Mexico.
