Lisa Thompson is Professor and Director of the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/accede.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\"><i><span lang=\"EN-US\">African Centre for Citizenship and Democracy<\/span><\/i><\/a><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0at the<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><u><span lang=\"EN-US\">University of Western Cape<\/span><\/u><span lang=\"EN-US\">, South Africa. Currently, Dr. Thompson works with her research about development in BRICS and in the Global South, in addition to cooperating with studies and debates about the fair transition concerning the multilateral platforms of BRICS and G20. Read the\u00a0<i>policy work paper\u00a0<\/i>co-edited by Lisa Thompson, titled\u00a0<b>\u201c<i>Adverse international and local conditions for South Africa\u2019s Special Economic Zones<\/i>\u201d<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The lecture is a continuation of the series of events about the BRICS organized by BPC\u00a0on the occasion of the 2019 Summit, to be hosted in Brazil. The \u201cBRICS Series\u201d inauguration previously featured a lecture by Professor Paulo Nogueira Batista Jr. on\u00a0<a href=\"\/?p=9884\">\u201cThe New Multilateral Development Banks (NDB-BRICS and AIIB) and the International Financial System\u201d<\/a>.
