{"id":10536,"date":"2019-08-12T14:01:51","date_gmt":"2019-08-12T17:01:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bricspolicycenter.org\/?p=10536"},"modified":"2019-08-12T14:01:51","modified_gmt":"2019-08-12T17:01:51","slug":"the-second-event-of-the-brics-series-discusses-the-brics-national-innovation-systems","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bricspolicycenter.org\/en\/the-second-event-of-the-brics-series-discusses-the-brics-national-innovation-systems\/","title":{"rendered":"The second event of the \u201cBRICS Series\u201d discusses the BRICS national innovation systems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On July 25, 2019, BRICS Policy Center hosted the lecture <strong>\u201cBRICS National Innovation System\u201d<\/strong>, given by the Economist Jos\u00e9 Eduardo Cassiolato, associate professor at the <a href=\"https:\/\/ufrj.br\/\">Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ)<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redesist.ie.ufrj.br\/\">RedeSist<\/a> Coordinator. The debate was also attended by\u00a0Luis Manuel Rabelo Fernandes, professor at<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iri.puc-rio.br\/\"> IRI\/PUC-Rio<\/a> and coordinator of the <a href=\"\/?p=4498#about\">Innovation and Governance of Development Program (PIGD).<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The lecture is a continuation of the series of events about the BRICS organized by BPC\u00a0on the occasion of the 2019 Summit, to be hosted in Brazil. The &#8220;BRICS Series&#8221; inauguration previously featured a lecture by Professor Paulo Nogueira Batista Jr. on <a href=\"\/?p=9884\">\u201cThe New Multilateral Development Banks (NDB-BRICS and AIIB) and the International Financial System\u201d<\/a>. Similar meetings will be held by BPC over the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>At the event, Cassiolato sought to discuss the role of BRICS public and private sector institutions in the development of new innovative technologies, as well as to discuss the current framework in which these systems find themselves, also their limitations and future perspectives. The professor highlighted in detail the processes present in Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, in the view of the effects that the 2008 crisis had on the development of Research and Development (R&amp;D) of these countries.<\/p>\n<p>For the economist, the crisis had a multifaceted aspect and presented significant factors that justify its persistence: the hypertrophy of markets and financial assets, and the sharp increase in inequality of income distribution.
