Multilateral Development Banks and their handling of the Covid-19 Pandemic

As a result of the consequences of the Covid-19 Pandemic, countries around the world are facing numerous health, economic and social challenges; the risk of prolonged recession, unemployment, hunger, increased poverty, are some of them. Many of the countries have turned to the multilateral development banks for help in implementing recovery programs. This Fact Sheet systematizes the actions of some of the Multilateral Development Banks in confronting the COVID-19 Pandemic. The research sought to make a varied and broad analysis from the selection of global and regional multilateral institutions. Five major banks were considered: the World Bank (WB); the European Investment Bank (EIB); the Asian Investment and Infrastructure Bank (AIIB); the New Development Bank (NDB); and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
