Mapi Monitors | The social, environmental and economic challenges in the pandemic: where are we and where are we going?

We present the Monitors series of the Professional Master in International Policy Analysis and Management (MAPI) of the Institute of International Relations (IRI): “The social, environmental and economic challenges in the pandemic: where are we and where are we going?”. The publication gathers analyses of economic activity that evaluate the future scenarios generated by the biggest global health crisis of the 21st century, prepared by MAPI students.

In early 2020, the international community was faced with one of the most challenging health crises it has ever faced: the COVID-19 pandemic. By observing the impacts of this scenario, in economic, political, and social spheres, it becomes necessary to locate the challenges present in our daily lives, as well as contributing to building future scenarios.

When looking at the increase of domestic violence during the period of lockdown; the collapse of the Brazilian health system; the uncertainties about the environmental impacts and the potential resumption of economic growth of the countries in the post-pandemic period, we note that COVID-19 highlighted the inequalities and human rights violations that are imminent around the globe, but especially in our country – one of the most unequal in the world.
