SUMMARY:Regional responses to the Covid-19 pandemic in Europe and Latin America
DESCRIPTION:Rede Jean Monnet | Crisis – Equity – Democracy for Europe and Latin America \nVulnerabilities and inequalities are accentuated as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic in Latin America\, through economic\, racial and gender factors. The continent is one of the most affected in terms of deaths and economic difficulties resulting from the drop in commodity prices. In parallel\, some countries such as Chile and Uruguay have high rates of vaccination and successful containment measures. Most are part of multilateral consortia for access to vaccines\, however\, in the debate about breaking patents\, we see the absence of Brazilian support for the proposal raised by India and South Africa. These facts reveal the inconsistency of an effective regional response\, which will be presented and debated by Jorge Bermudez\, doctor and researcher at Fiocruz. \nOn September 3\, at noon (Rio/GMT-3)\, the Jean Monnet Network and BPC invite you to the webinar “Regional responses to the Covid-19 pandemic in Europe and Latin America”. \nThe event will have simultaneous translation. Register here! \n\n  \nContinuing this conversation\, on October 6\, at noon (Rio/GMT-3)\, the Jean Monnet Network and BPC invite you to the second event of the series\, with Janis A. Emmanouilidis\, European Policy Center’s (EPC) Director of Studies\, Brussels. \nThe event will have simultaneous translation. Register here!

SUMMARY:South-South Cooperation on Peace and Development
DESCRIPTION:To explore the synergies between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)\, interlinked with the debate on the sustaining peace agenda and the strengthening of South-South Cooperation is a matter of great relevance in a moment of growing complex conflict and crisis. Those synergies\, however\, have been little systematized\, as research is still produced separately by peacebuilding\, security and development communities and actors (including UN actors). In this context\, the side-event aims at sharing knowledge about SSC on P&D\, discussing diagnosed opportunities\, emerging initiatives\, good practices and challenges.
